Native Americans occupy what is now Palm Beach County.

A.D. 1513

Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León lands near present day St. Augustine. Names the land “La Florida.” Later, he comes ashore at Jupiter Inlet which he names Rio de la Cruz.

1659

Spanish Aviso San Miguel archangel sinks during storm off Jupiter Inlet.  Thirty-three survivors stay at Jeaga village of Hobe (present day DuBois Park) until rescued.

1696

Jonathan Dickinson is shipwrecked near the Jupiter Inlet on his way to Philadelphia.  He later publishes his journal about his experiences with the Jeaga and Ais Indians.
