Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León lands near present day St. Augustine. Names the land “La Florida.” Later, he comes ashore at Jupiter Inlet which he names Rio de la Cruz.
Jonathan Dickinson is shipwrecked near the Jupiter Inlet on his way to Philadelphia. He later publishes his journal about his experiences with the Jeaga and Ais Indians.
