Native Americans occupy what is now Palm Beach County.

A.D. 1513

Juan Ponce de LeonSpanish explorer Juan Ponce de León lands near present day St. Augustine. Names the land “La Florida.” Later, he comes ashore at Jupiter Inlet which he names Rio de la Cruz.


Spanish Aviso San Miguel archangel sinks during storm off Jupiter Inlet.  Thirty-three survivors stay at Jeaga village of Hobe (present day DuBois Park) until rescued.


Reformation on Jupiter IslandJonathan Dickinson is shipwrecked near the Jupiter Inlet on his way to Philadelphia.  He later publishes his journal about his experiences with the Jeaga and Ais Indians.
