First schoolhouse on Palm Beach, 1886

Southeast Florida's first schoolhouse opens in Palm Beach.  First class taught by 16-year-old Hattie Gale.

1888

Harlan P. Dye opens the first structure built as a hotel on Palm Beach, 63-room Hotel Lake Worth on Palm Beach.

Judge Allen Heyser and wife Mattie Spencer open the Oak Lawn House hotel in present day Riviera Beach.

1896

Dade County government seat transferred from Miami to Juno

Jupiter and Lake Worth (Celestial) Railroad, first in south Florida, opens, spanning 7.5 miles between Jupiter to Juno.
