Jay Elgart Interview
World War II Veteran Jay Elgart served in the army from 1942-1945. Before going overseas, he trained or was stationed at Philco Radio School, Philadelphia; Fort Dix, New Jersey; Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Fort Monmouth, New Jersey; and Camp Crowder, Missouri. In Europe, he was with the 3110th Battalion, I Support, 3rd Army in communications. He participated in the drive through Northern France, Central Europe, Rhineland, and the Ardennes. He was later stationed in Fulda, Germany, servicing telephones. Elgart’s awards and decorations include American Service Medal, EAME Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.
