Jim Ponce Interview

Jim Ponce served as a corpsman in US Navy, 1942-1946, during World War II. Before shipping out to the South Pacific, Jim trained at Jacksonville Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida. He served aboard USS LST 750 and participated in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. His ship was torpedoed by Japanese aircraft and sunk in the Sulu Sea on December 28, 1944, while enroute by convoy to Mindoro. Jim was wounded in combat. His decorations include Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal. He also served in the navy during the Korean War.
