Wilbert Jasmund Interview

World War II veteran Wilbert Jasmund served as an army combat engineer from May 1943-October 1945. In Europe he served with the 158th Combat Engineer Battalion, 1128th Engineer Combat Group, 1st US Army. Jasmund participated in fighting from Normandy through northern France, the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. During the Battle of the Bulge German soldiers wearing US Army uniforms captured Jasmund but he escaped during the fighting and rejoined his unit. His awards and decorations include the American Defense Service Medal, European Theater Medal w/five bronze stars, Normandy Service Medal, French Legion of Honor Medal, WWII Victory Medal, WWII Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Expert-Submachine Gun & .45 cal. Pistol badge, marksman-rifle badge.
